Kudumbashree records ₹2.78 crore Onam turnover in Keralam’s Kollam - The HinduPublished - August 30, 2026 07:33 pm IST - KOLLAMKudumbashree has reported strong revenue growth during Onam season, recording a total turnover of ₹2.78 crore through its ‘Onam with Kudumbashree’ initiative in Kollam district. The revenue was generated through 146 Onam trade fairs organized across various Community Development Societies (CDS) and at the district level. This marks an increase of ₹8.49 lakh in sales compared to the previous year. A total of 4,598 Kudumbashree entrepreneurship units and 2,953 Joint Liability Group (JLG) farming units actively participated in the Onam markets.The trade fairs offered a wide array of goods, including traditional snacks, food products, pickles, curry powders, flour, millet items, bakery goods, handloom products, clothing, coconut oil, honey, soaps, and toiletries. Fresh local vegetables grown by JLG farmers and various flowers cultivated specifically for Onam saw high demand from shoppers looking to prepare traditional Onam feasts and pookalams.As part of the festive commercial operations, Kudumbashree units distributed 8,214 Onam kits across CDS levels, generating ₹42.43 lakh in revenue with the involvement of 476 entrepreneurs. The Onam kits, priced between ₹500 and ₹750, included essential festive items such as banana chips, sarkkaravaratti, chili powder, coriander powder, sambar masala, turmeric powder, coconut oil, payasam mix, and pickles. The Alayamon CDS emerged as the top performer in the district by preparing and distributing 750 kits. Additionally, the Home Shop network played a vital role in delivering products directly to households, contributing ₹16.78 lakh to the total revenue. Kudumbashree Cafe units also experienced strong demand for their Onam sadya services.
