Frontierland is already in the middle of one of the biggest periods of change in Magic Kingdom history, but Disney isn’t finished making adjustments around this corner of the park.This time, the change involves a longtime restaurant.The Diamond Horseshoe is preparing to swap out its current dining experience for something different. That change wasn’t necessarily expected to involve much work on the building itself.Now, however, construction walls have appeared directly between The Diamond Horseshoe and Liberty Tree Tavern, adding another active work zone to an area already surrounded by major changes.Credit: DisneyAnd while there is no indication that Disney is planning a dramatic transformation of the restaurant, the timing certainly makes the walls more interesting.The Diamond Horseshoe Is Getting a Replacement MenuThe Diamond Horseshoe has long been one of Magic Kingdom’s more recognizable Frontierland dining locations.Its Old West-style exterior fits naturally into the surrounding area, while the large dining room inside has served several purposes over the years. More recently, The Diamond Horseshoe and neighboring Liberty Tree Tavern have essentially operated as connected dining experiences.That’s about to change.Disney is preparing to introduce a limited-time pop-up menu at The Diamond Horseshoe following the closure of Jessie’s Roundup.In other words, guests aren’t simply looking at a few new dishes being added to the existing lineup. The restaurant is preparing for a replacement dining offering.Still, there wasn’t much reason to expect a significant physical transformation.Disney hasn’t announced a major overhaul of The Diamond Horseshoe itself, and the expectation has been that the restaurant will remain largely recognizable when the new menu arrives this October.That’s why the latest development stands out.Construction Walls Suddenly AppearConstruction walls have now gone up in the space between Liberty Tree Tavern and The Diamond Horseshoe.The walls surround a backstage door located between the two restaurants. That doorway has traditionally been used by the Country Bears when they enter the park.The characters are still appearing in Frontierland, but they’ve had to make a small adjustment because of the construction. Instead of using their usual entrance, the Country Bears are now entering near Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe.The work isn’t completely out of nowhere, either.Disney filed a permit for the area last month covering “General Construction,” with Aim Strategic Group, LLC listed as the contractor. However, Disney hasn’t announced any substantial changes for this particular section of the park.That leaves some uncertainty about exactly how extensive the project will become.Credit: DisneyThe walls could ultimately be connected to relatively routine work around the backstage entrance rather than a major renovation of either restaurant. At this point, Disney hasn’t announced anything suggesting The Diamond Horseshoe is about to receive a complete redesign.Even so, seeing walls appear here is a little surprising considering everything happening nearby.Frontierland Is Already Surrounded by Major ConstructionConstruction walls aren’t exactly difficult to find around Frontierland these days.Magic Kingdom is preparing for the arrival of Piston Peak National Park, the Cars-inspired expansion that will dramatically reshape this side of the park.That massive project follows the permanent closures of the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat. Disney is transforming a huge portion of the former Frontierland landscape as it prepares for the next generation of Magic Kingdom.That makes smaller projects in the surrounding area more noticeable.The Diamond Horseshoe isn’t disappearing, and Disney hasn’t announced plans to substantially alter the historic-looking restaurant. But when another set of construction walls suddenly appears near an established Frontierland location, it’s naturally going to attract attention.Guests walking through this portion of Magic Kingdom are watching a land in transition.Some changes are enormous and will reshape the park for decades. Others, like the work happening between The Diamond Horseshoe and Liberty Tree Tavern, may prove much more limited.For now, this appears to fall into the second category.The Diamond Horseshoe’s Next Chapter Is ComingWhat we know for certain is that The Diamond Horseshoe’s dining experience is changing.A replacement menu is coming, construction walls have appeared beside the restaurant, and Disney previously filed a general construction permit covering the area.What we don’t know is whether those developments are directly connected.Disney hasn’t announced a major renovation of The Diamond Horseshoe, so there’s little reason yet to expect the restaurant to look dramatically different once the work is finished.Still, the walls make this more interesting than a straightforward menu swap.Frontierland already looks very different from the land guests knew just a few years ago, and even familiar corners are now seeing changes as Disney continues preparing Magic Kingdom for its future.The Diamond Horseshoe may remain largely the same when everything is finished.
