A 63‑year‑old man who teaches art lessons is facing more than 20 charges after Durham police say two young girls were repeatedly sexually assaulted over an eight‑month period in Pickering and Toronto.Investigators launched the case in July 2026 after it was reported that the suspect — who is known to both families — attended the victims’ homes and inappropriately touched them. Police say the assaults occurred numerous times between November 2025 and July 2026.Following what police describe as an “extensive investigation,” officers located the suspect in Ajax in August and arrested him without incident.Faruk Dewan, 63, of Pickering, is charged with 11 counts of sexual assault and 11 counts of sexual interference with a person under 16. He was held for a bail hearing.Durham police say Dewan provides art lessons from a residence in Pickering, and investigators are concerned there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. His photo has been released.Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Durham police detective constable Gomez of the Special Victims Unit.These allegations have not yet been proven in court.
