These are the first bypolls to local body wards after the Congress-led UDF government came to power in Keralam in May.The polling will be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The polled votes will be counted on September 29 across multiple centres.The election notification will be issued on Thursday, September 3, State Election Commissioner N. Seshadrinathan said. Nominations can be filed from September 3 to September 10. The scrutiny of the papers will be held on September 11. September 14 is the last date for withdrawing the nominations.The poll-bound wards include Ayyappankavu in Kochi Corporation, Kuttchira in Kozhikode corporation, Municipal Office ward in Chalakkudy municipality, Paruthikavu in Chittur-Thathamangalam municipality, Uruvachal in Mattannur municipality, Kallara in Thiruvananthapuram district panchayat, Palassana in Palakkad district panchayat and Thrikkodithanam in Kottayam district panchayat.With the announcement of the election date, the Model Code of Conduct has taken effect in the respective jurisdictions. The Model Code applies to all grama panchayat wards coming under poll-bound district and block panchayat segments. In the case of grama panchayats with poll-bound wards, it is applicable to the entire panchayat area.
