The beauty of the ugly

Wait 5 sec.

When I googled places to avoid before my sketching trip to Naples last week I immediately fell in love with these brutalist buildings:Le Vele di Scampia. Built in the 60s, never finished, abandoned, legal -illegal home of 10 000s, playground for the Camorra, perfect hiding place for drug dealers and scenery for the Gomorrha series. From originally 7 buildings 5 and a half have been torn down. Despite the advice from the internet, I had to go there. That afternoon it was perfectly quiet. Maybe appearances are deceiving. But I trusted in my conviction, that most people on this earth are good. I spent more than 2 hours sketching and still get the goosebumps thinking about that afternoon. This should not be a recommendation for going there (especially not for sensation seeking)! But I will return for sure. Scampia got me.  Authorkathifix@gmx.deArtist's Websitehttps://www.instagram.com/soulfunkno1The post The beauty of the ugly appeared first on Urban Sketchers.
