Former Ghanaian boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been released after the Dansoman Circuit Court discontinued a case against him over an alleged death threat against National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.Ayitey Powers appeared before the court on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, after spending about a week on remand in connection with the alleged threat.He was arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command on Monday, August 24, following the circulation of a video on social media in which he was alleged to have threatened the life of Mr Ampofo Ankrah.His arrest followed a call by the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) for his arrest and prosecution over the alleged comments.The Dansoman Circuit Court subsequently discontinued the case, paving the way for Ayitey Powers’ release after his appearance on Wednesday.The circumstances surrounding the court’s decision to discontinue the case were not immediately available.
