Lawyer Franco Debono has called for more GPs to carry out home visits, arguing that it could help reduce pressure on Malta’s health centres and hospitals.In a social media post, Debono described the decline in family doctors who visit patients at home as “one of the biggest problems” facing the healthcare sector. Imagine if, apart from bringing you a pizza, Bolt could bring a doctor to your home.”He argued that many people would likely prefer being treated at home if the service were more readily available.Debono also praised the dedication of GPs who still make house calls, saying he knows doctors who continue visiting patients late into the evening.Although he admitted he is not a healthcare specialist, Debono said he believes incentivising more GPs to visit patients at home could address one of the root causes of the strain on Malta’s healthcare system.Do you think Malta should encourage more GPs to offer home visits?•
