Michael Owen has recommended Marcus Rashford to Arsenal after the Gunners missed out on Vinicius Junior following their failed pursuit of the Brazilian’s signature. Arsenal had hoped to sign the winger after he and Real Madrid failed to agree on a new deal, with the Gunners waiting for him to accept their offer and become their next superstar in the Premier League.Mikel Arteta’s side have been one of the best teams in Europe in recent times, and Vinicius was open to joining them. However, Real Madrid fought back and retained the services of the Brazilian winger, leaving Arsenal to consider other options as they continue looking to strengthen their squad.Owen recommends Rashford to ArsenalArsenal will now focus on alternative targets and could still look to sign a winger. This is why Owen believes a move for Rashford would make sense after the forward spent last season on loan at Barcelona.The Spanish side opted not to keep Rashford, but his time with the club was considered a success. He returned to England as a league winner and could provide Arsenal with another attacking option if they decide to approach him.Rashford could therefore emerge as a realistic alternative after Arsenal failed to secure their preferred target in Vinicius Junior.Rashford could fit Arteta’s plansOwen believes Rashford would suit what Arsenal need and could work effectively within Arteta’s system. The former England striker also feels the forward could complement the players already at the club.‘I didn’t see Vinicius Junior to Arsenal happening, but a move for someone like Rashford would make sense,’ he told the Metro.‘This would be a move I can see happening and makes sense as Arsenal are looking for a left-sided striker.‘He would fit well into Arteta’s plans and work well with the rest of the squad they have.
