Anyone who endured the era of remote schooling knows there was one universal fear: accidentally leaving your camera or microphone on. TikTok influencer Laila Hakim (@ulovelailahakim) says her story from Seattle might be one of the worst possible scenarios. It’s one thing to be caught eating or saying the wrong thing during class. She says she accidentally appeared naked in front of her entire virtual classroom. Hakim began the story by telling her followers, “Let’s start with the worst.” She explained that her online class had around 40 students, including one person she especially wished hadn’t been there: her ex-partner. At the start of the lesson, her teacher asked everyone to turn on their cameras, and Hakim complied. As the lesson went on, however, she completely forgot her camera was still on. She placed her phone on her nightstand and, with no presentation or participation required from her, started getting ready for an athletic practice later that day. She rummaged through her closet deciding what to wear before changing clothes — completely unaware that her classmates could see everything. What shocked her most wasn’t the accidental exposure itself, but the silence from everyone else in the class. Looking back, she joked, “Nobody thought to maybe unmute?” That wasn’t the last mishap Surprisingly, Hakim said that wasn’t even the last time she accidentally exposed herself online. In the same video, she recalled another incident involving social media. She had filmed a video she thought looked perfect, proudly saying her “face card, period,” before uploading it and heading to a six-hour work shift. Unfortunately, her workplace had almost no cell service. When she finally got off work, she discovered six missed calls from her mother. She immediately knew something was wrong. After people urged her to check the video, she realized it had been live for six hours with the entire right side of her chest exposed. Looking back, Hakim laughed at the situation, saying, “Do you know how many group chats I’m probably in? Do you know? And you may be asking, how could I not see? Because I was distracted by my face card.” That line, in particular, had viewers in stitches, with many saying it was the funniest part of the entire story. The TikTok has since racked up more than 3.7 million views, with users sharing their own embarrassing wardrobe mishaps. It ended up being relatable One user wrote, “One time my mom was in the sauna and she took a nice picture of the sky outside the window and posted it on her Instagram story. She didn’t realize that her reflection was showing on the window.” Another added, “I was at a swimming pool and I was in one piece so I was swimming and looked down and my frickin boobie was out and it didn’t feel any different than when it was in so I don’t know how long it was out.” @ulovelailahakim #fyp #foryou #relateable ♬ Creepy and simple horror background music(1070744) – howlingindicator By sharing what she considered her most embarrassing moments, Hakim ended up encouraging countless other women to laugh at their own accidental slip-ups. Sometimes the most mortifying mistakes happen in the most public ways, but having other people admit they’ve been there too can make them a little easier to laugh about.
