U.P. links dairy sector with cooperative societies for boosting livelihood, employment opportunities - The HinduPublished - August 07, 2026 06:05 pm IST - LucknowMayank Kumar _11754Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday said multiple initiatives under Dairy Development Department helped to secure employment opportunities for over 2.25 lakh people. | Photo Credit: The HinduUttar Pradesh government on Thursday (August 6) said multiple initiatives under Dairy Development Department helped to secure employment opportunities for over 2.25 lakh people and playing a crucial role in rural livelihood with formation of nearly 5,000 cooperative societies across the state. “In the financial year 2024-25, India produced 248 million metric ton of milk and became the largest milk producing nation. Uttar Pradesh contributed 38.8 million metric ton of milk which is 16 percent of India’s total production, we were number one among all the states. Under our Nand baba dugdh mission, which is dream project of the respected Chief Minister, 4,951 primary milk cooperative societies have been formed in U.P. Helping to secure employment opportunities for roughly 2.25 lakh people, mostly in rural areas. 17,994 individuals are directly benefitted from the initiative helping to boost rural livelihood in the state,” told Dhanalakshmi K. Dairy Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh, to The Hindu, in Lucknow. The Dairy Commissioner added in recent years Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) worth over Rs. 28,000 crores have been signed with stakeholders interested in the Dairy sector. “Uttar Pradesh Dairy Development Department held a one-day district-level Dairy Conclave-2026 across all 75 districts on August 5. Through the conclave we disseminated the advantages of various public welfare initiatives being executed by the Dairy Development Department to eligible beneficiaries. We continuously held workshops to enhance awareness regarding modern technologies and scientific livestock management within the dairy sector, while ensuring the effective execution of departmental schemes,” added Dhanalakshmi K., who is a 2000-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the U.P. Cadre.
