A fundraiser has been launched to help Antoine Degiorgio continue his rehabilitation after a devastating heart attack earlier this year left him with brain damage and changed his life in an instant.Antoine suffered the heart attack in March, but his family says he has made remarkable progress in the months since, fighting step by step to regain abilities and reach milestones that once seemed impossible.Now, however, his loved ones say they need the public’s help to make sure that progress can continue.According to the fundraiser, the hospital services currently available to Antoine in Malta can no longer provide the ongoing specialised cognitive rehabilitation and long-term support he requires.His family is therefore hoping to raise enough money to move Antoine out of hospital and into a safe and supportive environment where he can receive daily care and continue working towards greater independence.Funds raised will go towards live-in carers, specialised cognitive therapy, physical and neurological rehabilitation, private medical and therapeutic support, and creating a suitable home environment for Antoine.The family’s goal is to fund one full year of care, costing them 85,000, which they believe could make an enormous difference to his recovery and give him the time and support needed to continue developing his cognitive abilities.“Antoine has already shown us what he is capable of,” his family wrote. “We just don’t want his journey to end because the support available to him has run out.”Those behind the fundraiser are appealing for donations of any size, while also urging anyone unable to contribute financially to share Antoine’s story and help it reach more people.“Please help us give Antoine another chance at recovery, another chance at independence, and another chance at getting as close as possible to the person he was before his heart attack,” the appeal reads.As of right now, the fundraiser has reached €21,548.
