Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle has taken aim at former Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and has reflected on how the club have changed how they operate since the 64-year-old’s exit.In their first summer window since the departure of Levy, the new Tottenham leadership have certainly sent out a big statement to their own supporters and the rest of the Premier League.The club have backed De Zerbi with his top targets and managed to get many of them through the door even before the start of pre-season.The Lilywhites are not done this window just yet, with Spurs expected to add at least two attackers to their squad before the end of the month.Credit: @harryphoto.kr / InstagramGlenn Hoddle blasts Daniel Levy for leaving Tottenham’s business until late in the windowHoddle has not only been impressed with the signings that Spurs have made this summer, but he is pleased to see that they have completed most of them at the start of the window.The former Spurs manager pointed out that Daniel Levy often preferred to leave things until the last moment, admitting that he found it hard to deal with during his time in the White Hart Lane hotseat.When asked if nearly being relegated last season has served as a wake-up call for Tottenham, Hoddle told talkSPORT Breakfast: “I think that was, that’s a good word, a wake-up call last year following two 17ths in the league. You get any worse performance, you’re going down. So I think it was a wake-up call.“I think they’ve bought really, really well on paper. It looks really good, looks exciting and the key for me is they’ve done it early. Daniel Levy liked to leave it late a lot of times, certainly when I was manager there, and there was no real thought about the manager and putting the squad together. You hit the season and you still don’t have your players in.”Hoddle believes Spurs signings have been shrewd and balancedSome pundits have been critical of Tottenham’s big spending this summer, suggesting that the club have overpaid for average players.However, Hoddle believes that Spurs have been smart in the business they have done overall this summer, including the free signings of Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka.When asked if Levy’s preference to leave things late was to save money, the 68-year-old responded: “Yes, I think that was his philosophy. And I think this one, De Zerbi has gone in there and said, ‘look, if I’m staying, if we stay up, this is who I want.’ Identified a few players and they’ve gone out on a limb to get them in.“On paper, they look terrific. I think as well, there’s a nice balance to it. They’ve spent some money on three players, but they’ve been very shrewd, they’ve got three free transfers as well.
