Karen Gillan is certainly no stranger to the world of horror, with two of her first features being Colm McCarthy’s supernatural thriller Outcast and Mike Flanagan’s directorial debut Oculus (which introduced the cursed Lasser Glass to wider audiences). Though she may be busy with other genres — from joining the cast of Shrinking to starring in the upcoming Highlander reboot — she hasn’t turned her back on her spooky roots, as evidenced by how much fun she had in a video with two icons from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. Appearing in Monroeville, Penn. for the annual Steel City Con, Karen Gillan no doubt took pictures with a bunch of fans and answered a lot of fan questions about returning to the Jumanji franchise for the newest movie, which is to be expected. Something I don’t think many people would have readily anticipated, however, is seeing the Doctor Who vet standing in a hallway with The Shining’s Grady twins…or at least the actresses who portrayed the ghostly gals, Lisa and Louise Burns. Maybe that's exaggerating, but it doesn't overplay the happiness on her fact. I can't imagine she would have been this pumped to see the elder clothing-optional ghoul from Room 237, but that would have been an equally fun video to see play out. This moment seems like a true GOAT memory for Gillan, and I 1000% support the actress' idea to turn The Shining's immediately recognizable carpet into a Halloween costume. Extra points if she can somehow attach a young boy riding a tricycle in steadicam to the costume, but I guess that's a lot to hope for. Karen Gillan has some experience with Stephen King projects, as she somewhat recently reteamed with Mike Flanagan for the adaptation of The Life of Chuck, though that wasn't exactly a horror-skewing narrative. The connective tissue there, though, is that Flanagan also directed Doctor Sleep, the direct sequel to The Shining, for which a massive chunk of the Overlook hotel set was rebuilt. Wnat's more, the filmmaker's brother Jamie Flanagan is curating the upcoming short story anthology Tales from the Overlook that will dig deeper into the haunted hotel's history. It seems pretty likely that at least ONE author penned a tale that will center on the Grady sisters and their murderous father. Maybe Gillan herself wrote it! (Probably not.)
