DMK’s participation in delimitation meeting essential, says Thol. Thirumavalavan - The HinduPublished - August 07, 2026 08:34 pm IST - CUDDALOREViduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Friday said the DMK’s participation was essential in the consultation meeting of Members of Parliament from alliance parties, including the VCK, on the delimitation meeting to be chaired by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Saturday.Speaking to reporters in Cuddalore, he said the meeting was being held to press the Union government to drop any proposed legislation on the delimitation of Parliamentary constituencies.“There is no need for such a law in the present circumstances. The VCK will participate in the meeting to emphasise that the Union government must abandon it. I do not know whether the DMK has been invited to the meeting. If it is true that an invitation has been extended, the DMK’s participation is essential," he said.Mr. Thirumavalavan also welcomed the separate resolution introduced by the Chief Minister alleging that the Centre had adopted a stepmotherly attitude in allocating funds to States.On the State budget, he said the new government had been in office for only two months and that it was its first budget. “Several announcements and schemes may follow in the coming budgets. Hence, the VCK does not wish to offer a different view on this budget,” he said.No earlier scheme had been altered or abandoned in the budget. The government is continuing the existing schemes.“Renaming schemes is a routine practice. A government changing the names given by another occurs from time to time. I am not justifying it, but it cannot be avoided,” he said.On the Cauvery water dispute, Mr. Thirumavalavan said the VCK had been among the first to demand an all-party meeting and reiterated that such a meeting would be appropriate now as well. The VCK has consistently called for a united political and legal response to protect Tamil Nadu’s rights over Cauvery waters, he added.Published - August 07, 2026 08:34 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
