Opposition and PN leader Alex Borg has called for a clear, long-term investment plan for Malta’s infrastructure, arguing that the country is struggling to keep pace with the needs of families, businesses and a growing economy. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)Speaking during an interview on NET FM’s Issues, Borg said a meeting between the Opposition and MCESD social partners earlier this week reinforced the need for urgent solutions to Malta’s electricity distribution problems.He said the country needs to establish what investment has already been carried out, what remains to be done and how the electricity network will cope with future demand.Borg also questioned the government’s claim that €140 million has been invested in the distribution network, arguing that a clear account of where and how that money was spent has yet to be provided.The PN leader reiterated several proposals put forward by his party, including automatic compensation for households and businesses affected by prolonged or repeated power cuts, better compensation for Enemalta workers and a clear investment plan for the distribution network.He also called for Malta to reduce its dependence on external energy sources and invest more heavily in renewable energy.“Social dialogue cannot only be used when the government is backed into a corner,” Borg said. “It should be part of how the country is governed every day.”Do you agree Malta’s infrastructure is struggling to keep up with the country’s growth?Video: NetNews•
