A deadly domestic incident rocked Michigan after a mother and her six children were killed by her husband. In the days since, a Reddit account verified as hers has offered a window into a marriage that had been under strain for years. Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, shot his 39-year-old wife Amanda Karolkiewicz, and their six children at their home in Grand Haven Township on July 24, then set the family’s house on fire and took his own life, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. (via Fox News) All eight were found with gunshot wounds once crews reached the burning home. The children were four boys — 15, 12, 11, and 5 — along with two 11-year-old girls, both adopted. The family’s pets died as well. Firefighters were first called to the neighborhood on Friday morning after residents reported smelling smoke. Newly released dispatch audio recorded responders saying that the house was “full of smoke.” Michigan State Police arson investigators are treating the fire as intentional, saying it was set in several places inside the home after the killings. To anyone watching her social media, the family looked like it was doing alright. In the weeks before her death, Mandy had returned from a trip to China with her two adopted daughters. Their TikToks captured the trip’s highlights, which included a visit to Shanghai Disney. Her last post, dated July 17, said the family was ready to head home. What the Reddit account showed beyond the smiling TikTok videos According to The Detroit News, a Reddit profile under the username “MandyK1179” belonged to Karolkiewicz. When the outlet cross-checked details like the couple’s wedding date, the family’s ages, where they lived and what they did for work, it turned out to be the same Mandy. The posts talking about her marriage were written two years ago. In 2024, she wrote that her husband had been unfaithful, describing an affair with a younger colleague. “He was divorced and older than me,” she wrote, per People, talking about how the two had met when she was an intern. “Fast forward ten years and five kids, he was cheating with the intern again — the same age I was when I was the intern.” She also wrote that walking away felt impossible with six children in the house. Mandy discussed going to therapy and quitting alcohol, saying she’d been sober for close to two years. Kristopher Karolkiewicz, who committed the murders and then killed himself, had been employed at the American Heart Association since 2023. His time there ended in July 2026, the same month as the killings. The association said in a statement that Kristopher had worked as a sales and marketing person.  Much of the coverage focuses on the infidelity, but the subreddit Mandy posted on, “AsOneAfterInfidelity,” is a place for people who choose to stay after learning about the affair. That, combined with the therapy and the sobriety, reads more like someone working to hold a marriage together. It’s important to highlight that whether any of that bears on what happened on July 24 is not something investigators have addressed so far. A GoFundMe organized by Mandy’s cousins to help her parents with the costs has taken in more than $43,000 so far.
