I lived in Lafayette, LA, during the 2016 flood, and our community got hit hard. Most businesses in our downtown area had like 5 feet of standing water by the time the storm was over. Our subdivision also happened to sit right on a branch of the Vermilion River, so a lot of my neighbors ended up with water flooding the first floor of their homes. Somehow, our house was spared, but probably 80% of the homes around us had flood damage. It was really heartbreaking to see.
