Call of Duty’s yearly cycle is winding down to only wind up once again, and so ending, too, is the story of Black Ops 7’s Zombies arc. Starting on Aug. 20 at 11am CT, the round-based Zombies map Rex Infernus and its main quest will go live, and this could (and likely will) be the last CoD Zombies map for a while. With Modern Warfare 4 launching in October with the DMZ extraction mode and no Zombies in sight, the undead may finally get to rest a while. Image via Activision And speaking of MW4, the Season Five Reloaded update with the new Zombies map goes live in BO7 the day prior to MW4’s beta kicking off on Aug. 21, so CoD players won’t have much time to finish the map before hopping into the new game if they choose to do so. “As reality stands on the cusp of destruction, the crew face their ultimate challenge,” Treyarch teased for Rex Infernus. “Cleanse the Shadowsmiths’ places of power, find the Warden’s inner sanctum, and put an end to his loathsome existence. Everything has led to this point, but does the crew have what it takes to finish the job and save reality? Answer the call to find out.” Rex Infernus is purposefully shrouded in secret (with Treyarch and fans watching along with a special ZombieZone live stream) as players find everything out for themselves when the map goes playable. But one thing we do know about is the hideous Deathspinner enemy type (pictured above), with a warning from the devs: “One on one, they’re not so bad, but watch out when they swarm.” “If you think Deathspinners are frightening, wait until you run into the Web Mother,” Treyarch said. “Try to keep your wits about you as the Web Mother screams and lunges, using copious amounts of webbing to damage and slow the crew while cocooning zombies transforming them into environmental hazards.” So yeah, needless to say, if you suffer from arachnophobia, this may not be the map for you. Additionally, Widow’s Wine makes its return as a Perk-a-Cola in the update, including a new set of Minor and Major Augments. And Season Five Reloaded will also add Ultra-Rarity weapons to the Mystery Box, including the TR2 marksman rifle and Olympia shotgun. BO7’s Season Five Reloaded update goes live on Aug. 20 at 11am CT, followed by Call of Duty Next on Aug. 21, showcasing the future of the franchise including MW4, DMZ, and Warzone.
