Golfers Sam Kacungira and Vincent Katutsi staged a remarkable comeback to win the 2026 Stanbic bank-sponsored Entebbe Matchplay Championship last weekend after edging Richard Mwami and Tony Kisadha on the 21st hole in a dramatic sudden-death playoff. The victory capped five months of fierce competition on Entebbe Golf Club’s par-71 lakeside course and earned the champions a maiden Stanbic Matchplay title. Kacungira and Katutsi looked in control after going 2-up at the ninth, but former finalists Mwami and Kisadha fought back to take the lead late in the match. With defeat threatening, Kacungira produced a crucial shot on the 18th hole to force sudden death. The playoff went three extra holes before the winners finally sealed victory on the 21st hole.
