Nintendo and Game Freak announced a number of changes tied to the 3DS app Pokemon Bank and the Pokemon Home Switch and mobile one. The former will be closed worldwide on February 25, 2027. Meanwhile, the latter will get updates tied to Pokemon FireRed, LeafGreen, and GO in October 2026. Pokemon Bank has been a Pokemon Home style storage service for characters and launched on the 3DS back in 2014, following some issues with its planned December 2013 debut. It worked with newer games from Pokemon X and Y to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, as well as older Virtual Console ones thanks to the Poke Transporter. While it was paid at first, it became free to use after the 3DS shutdown. Pokemon Home support was also added, but it is a one-way trip for any sent from the older app to the new one. The new update about the shutdown is tied to age and, since the app can’t be downloaded on the 3DS anymore, only existing users can send over Pokemon before support ends. As for Pokemon Home, the October 2026 updates are rather basic. The general one is that it will support 9,000 characters, increasing the cap by 3,000. Pokemon LeafGreen and FireRed on the Switch 2 will be supported, allowing someone to save characters. A Celebi giveaway is planned for people who complete those games’ Pokedex.
