Wesley Ward Nabs Gun Runner Colt for $2.3M

Trainer Wesley Ward went to $2.3 million for a Gun Runner colt Monday night at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale. The chestnut, consigned as Hip 78 by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent CXV, is out of the Tapit mare Shook Up. Already the dam of Texas Derby winner and GIII Oklahoma Derby runner-up King Ottoman (Curlin), Shook Up was second in the 2015 GI Kentucky Oaks and GII Fair Grounds Oaks. She is out of GI Santa Maria Handicap winner Sugar Shake (Awesome Again).The $2.3-million colt was bred in Kentucky by Three Chimneys Farm, where Gun Runner stands. The farm bought the colt's dam at the 2015 Keeneland November sale for $1.65 million.
