Map of today's active volcanoesStromboli (Eolian Islands, Italy): (8 Aug) Another small lava overflow occurred over night from the northern crater area of the volcano. According to the volcano observatory (INGV Catania), a small lava flow began to spill onto the upper Sciara del Fuco at approx. 00:45 local time this morning.Ordinary Strombolian activity continues at both the North and Central-South crater areas, alongside spattering from the North crater area (with variable intensity). From a seismic perspective, the average volcanic tremor amplitude remains within the moderate range. No significant changes have been observed in the occurrence rate or amplitude of explosion-quakes, nor have there been significant variations in the time series data from ground deformation monitoring stations. As of this morning, it seems that the lava flow was only short-lived, after having reached a length of estimated 100-150 m, and now has stopped or is only very weekly fed.Etna (Sicily, Italy): Explosive activity continues. Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Toulouse warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 9000 ft (2700 m) altitude or flight level 090 and is moving at 5 kts in S direction. The full report is as follows: ERUPTION AT 20260807/0018Z VERY WEAK ASH EMISSION STILL ONGOING to 9000 ft (2700 m)...8 Aug:Two lava flows started at the volcano yesterday: the first originated from the Vorgine summit crater itself, which started during yesterday's lava fountaining episode and was spilling from the Voragine crater into the neighboring Northeast Crater, similar to the events a week earlier. The second lava flow, also similar to what had happened 8 days ago, originated from a fissure vent that opened around 09:30 local time yesterday morning in Valle del Leone at an elevation of approximately 2750 m, feeding lava flows whose fronts moved past Monte Simone in Valle del Bove, reaching an elevation of approximately 2000 m by yesterday afternoon. As of today (8 Aug 2026), it seems to be still weakly active, while explosive activity at the summit craters has decreased. Tremor amplitude remains fluctuating at high levels. The fountaining activity yesterday resulted in ash fallout sampled at Adrano, Ragalna, Piano Vetore, and Nicolosi.Sakurajima (Kyushu, Japan): (8 Aug) Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Tokyo (VAAC) issued the following report: EXPLODED AT 20260808/0814Z OVER FL070 EXTD W OBS VA DTG:08/0810ZIbu (Halmahera, Indonesia): Explosive activity continues.
