PPC ad copy and copywriting overlap more than I expected and I have questions

Wait 5 sec.

My day job is mostly Google Ads, which means I spend a weird amount of time writing 30character headlines that somehow have to not be completely dead on arrival. It is not glamorous. There are character limits. The headlines get truncated in ways that make me want to lie down. Anyway I've been reading more about copywriting proper lately (partly out of necessity, partly because the wedding budget spreadsheet only needs so much attention) and I keep running into this tension around AIgenerated copy. The consensus seems to be that it flattens everything, makes it sound like a press release wrote itself, kills any specificity that would actually make someone click or care. What I notice in PPC is that my highest CTR headlines are almost always the ones where I just said the thing directly, no softening, no clever framing. But when I hand that same brief to an AI tool for variations, it immediately adds words that make it sound like an ad for a generic cloud platform. Curious whether copywriters working on longer form stuff run into the same pattern. Is the AI problem mostly about voice, or is it something more structural in how the prompts get written? Not trying to start a discourse, genuinely puzzled by this. submitted by /u/Busy-Pudding-5947 [link] [comments]
