Tattersalls managing director Matthew Prior has hailed the “quality, depth and value” on offer during the second week of the October Yearling Sale following the publication of the catalogues for Books 2, 3 and 4.Book 2, which takes place from Monday, October 12 to Wednesday, October 14, features a total of 806 yearlings, including 486 siblings to Group/Listed performers and 247 out of blacktype mares. Potential highlights include the Sea The Stars full-brother to the multiple Group 1-placed The Lion In Winter; the St Mark's Basilica half-brother to the 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes winner Poetic Flare; and the Nathaniel full-brother to the Nassau Stakes heroine Lady Bowthorpe.Purchases from Book 2 have enjoyed notable success at the top level in 2026, headlined by Ombudsman, who has added both the G1 Dubai Turf and a second G1 Prince of Wales's Stakes to his illustrious CV. The son of Night Of Thunder is joined by the 15-time Group 1 winner Romantic Warrior (Acclamation), dual Group 1 winner Hotazhell (Too Darn Hot) and GI Belmont Derby Stakes scorer Title Role (Too Darn Hot) as flagbearers for the sale this year.Eighteen of the 20 leading sires in Britain and Ireland will be represented at Book 2, with Tally-Ho Stud's Mehmas leading the way with 45 yearlings catalogued, followed by Havana Grey, New Bay and Too Darn Hot with 27 apiece. Meanwhile, Juddmonte's 2,000 Guineas hero Chaldean leads the way numerically among the first-crop sires with 30 yearlings catalogued, narrowly ahead of the five-time Group/Grade 1 winner Modern Games with 29.Last year's leading consignor Tally-Ho Stud has the largest draft with 32 yearlings catalogued, followed closely by Baroda Stud and Newsells Park Stud, each with 28 yearlings.Book 3 has 507 yearlings catalogued and will take place from Thursday, October 15 to Friday, October 16, while Book 4 is made up of 61 yearlings and will commence immediately after Book 3 concludes on Friday, October 16.All yearlings catalogued in Books 3 and 4 of the October Yearling Sale are eligible for the £200,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes and the £200,000 Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes run at Newmarket's Rowley Mile and July Course, respectively.Prior said, “The world's highest-rated horse, Ombudsman, and the 15-time Group 1 winner Romantic Warrior are the perfect poster-boys for Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
