“The Trump administration took a partial step Monday toward Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s promised food-system overhaul, unveiling new transparency rules for food ingredients while again delaying a long-promised definition of ultraprocessed food,” the Wall Street Journal reports.“The new proposed federal rule would ask companies to notify the Food and Drug Administration when they introduce a new substance into food products and provide information on why they consider it to be safe. The move appeals to food-safety advocates who had long decried what they called a secret system and a loophole that allowed companies to declare that ingredients were safe without seeking the agency’s approval or notifying the public.”
