Former Chelsea player Andy Townsend believes that Djed Spence would be a very good addition for the Blues this summer.Spence looks set to leave Tottenham Hotspur with Destiny Udogie and Andy Robertson fighting out at left-back and Pedro Porro the obvious choice at right-back.Spence enjoyed a standout World Cup for EnglandGettyLiverpool have also been linked with a move for the versatile full-back, but talkSPORT understands the Reds are yet to make any move, with the player understood to be keen on a move.Chelsea are yet to be linked with a swoop for their rivals’ player amid talk of a £35million fee being enough for Tottenham to part ways.But Townsend believes that Chelsea could do a lot worse than bringing in Spence, who shone for England at the World Cup.Either at left-back or right-back, he was one of the Three Lions’ standout players, and after losing Marc Cucurella and with Malo Gusto being available, Townsend thinks a move for Spence is sensible.Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast with Jeff Stelling, he said: “I don’t know what he would cost because of how well he did at the World Cup.“Has that inflated his price tag unreasonably? Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck have added some experience as well.However, Townsend feels as if a new goalkeeper would be something to look at.The Blues have allowed Filip Jorgensen to depart and join sister club Strasbourg on loan.There were links to Porto keeper Diogo Costa, but Chelsea have informed talkSPORT they are not true.Sanchez is set to be Chelsea’s number oneGettyOn Sanchez and the goalkeeper situation, Townsend said: “Robert Sanchez is one of those goalkeepers that Monday to Friday, he must be unbelievable.“He must be plucking them out of the top corner and making saves from all angles – he must be brilliant.“Everyone at the club thinks there is a proper goalkeeper there, whereas most of us are waiting for a rick or a lapse in concentration.“You are just waiting for him to scupper all of the good work that clearly he can do.“I would have thought that if Chelsea want to win the league, and I am sure they will want to again at some point, they are going to have to upgrade.“But they obviously haven’t seen anything they really fancy, so they are going to continue to go with Sanchez.“He’s got all of the profile that you need to be a top goalkeeper, but it is that carelessness in his game that tends to have everybody talking about that rather than the good saves.”
