The FDA also suspended licences of five establishments citing food safety violations.The raids were conducted on August 6 and 7, as part of the “Safe Food, Safe Maharashtra” campaign.According to an statement issued Sunday by FDA, on August 6, officials raided Swagat Oil Industries where several serious violations were detected. Soybean oil from a single tank was being misleadingly packaged and marketed as both ‘refined’ and ‘ultra refined’ oil, it said. The premises also involved extensive use of reused tins and were found to be unhygienic. The establishment did not have an in-house laboratory, Certificates of Analysis (COA), food-grade certificates, medical and pest-control records or qualified technical personnel, the statement added.The FDA seized 66,652.6 kg of edible oil valued at Rs. 1.05 crore. The establishment’s licence was suspended with immediate effect and the unit was closed.The FDA also took action against Charkha Oil Mill which was allegedly found to be involved in misleading packaging of palmolein oil and the use of reused tins. The FDA seized 45,995.7 kg of edible oil valued at Rs 78.22 lakh.On August 7, the FDA also suspended licences of Jai Hanuman Traders, Janhavi Commercials and Vinayak Oil Industries, over various violations, including unsafe storage of loose oil, the use of reused tins and failure to maintain required records.Across these five establishments, the FDA seized a total of 1.19 lakh kg of edible oil valued at Rs 1.94 crore and collected 27 enforcement samples.Story continues below this ad“FDA has taken strict action against all five establishments.
