Does Spironolactone actually reduce unwanted hair growth from Minoxidil?

Wait 5 sec.

Basically what the title says. I’m about 6 weeks into OM and noticing way more facial hair growth. My Derm refused to let me start Spironolactone right away until he saw I reacted to OM fine. Which I reluctantly agreed to, but was still very worried about how the lack of Spironolactone would impact my side effects to OM. Unwanted hair growth being one of them. After only 6 weeks, my upper lip hairs are much thicker, and I’ve also noticed the hair on my side burns, jaw, and cheeks growing longer and darker. So basically if I look close in the mirror it’s as if I was growing a beard. So far it isn’t noticeable to anyone else (that I know of), but in the mirror and in direct sunlight I can definitely see it. To my knowledge I don’t have PCOS. Aside from AGA I guess i get hormonal acne around my period, but those are the only PCOS related symptoms I’ve ever had (though my upper lip hair is starting to look a bit like hirsutism). I’m assuming this is from the minoxidil. And since spiro is strictly an anti-androgen medication I’m not sure if increased facial hair from minoxidil qualifies as something spiro can effectively treat. I’ve seen mixed results about how effective Spironolactone is with this particular side effect and was hoping others could share their own experiences on both medications? Especially anyone who started with minoxidil first and added spiro later? Did anything change? Or should I just bite the bullet and start shaving now and save up for electrolysis? submitted by /u/Muted_Negotiation_88 [link] [comments]
