Five Nights at Freddy’s may be the only franchise where two movies both crushed at the box office, and then both went many months without sequel confirmations from studios. Fans are currently in just such a limbo, with the fate of FNAF 3 still up in the air, even though it seems all but inevitable for at least one more movie to get made. Just in case that doesn’t happen, though, the video game’s creator Scott Cawthon is making sure Freddy Fazbear remains a big part of our lives with a real-world pizzeria location.This is not a drill, and this is also not a job announcement for an overnight security guard. Rather, it’s the bonkers (but also 100% understandable) reveal that a physical Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza is in the works to give fans a chance to actually step inside the beloved attraction. The first of hopefully several spots is being set up inside the American Dream complex in Bergen County, New Jersey, with ScottGames aiding in the development, and it sounds cool as hell. I mean, it also sounds like all parties involved are seriously tempting fate by virtually necessitating that animatronic possessions and poltergeists take place in the near-ish future. But outside of that, I’m really jealous of anyone who lives close enough to make this a regular venture. According to Patch, the immersive attraction will be authentic to the source material, in that visitors will be able to chow down on pizza and other treats, play video games, and watch animatronics jam on stage. Two stage shows are being set up, with the Main Stage focusing on Freddy and the Fazbear Band, while Foxy the Pirate is of course getting his own Pirate’s Cove stage. No word on whether or not there will be a boat ride, but I'm guessing not. (Yet anyway.)(Image credit: Universal Pictures)On the gaming front, Freddy Fazbear's will also go a bit meta with "multi-player game experiences" in which players will need to survive different horror scenarios. Perhaps this will be where one's night security skills can be put to use. American Dream’s creative manager and creative lead for the pizzeria attraction, Atreyu Alcantar, doesn’t want anyone to think that this will be a cheaply crafted cash-grab, and sounds pretty convincing when explaining why it was important to align with Cawthon & Co. to bring this idea to life. In her words:The only way this experience succeeds is if it's created by a team that knows Five Nights at Freddy's inside and out The animatronic show has to be authentic. The food has to be high quality. We're not building a set that looks like Freddy Fazbear's Pizza — we're building Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. This experience will immerse longtime fans in the world they've imagined for years.Of course, the more authentic the attraction is to the game's locations, the more chances there are for pure havoc and unexplainable horrors to take place while lowering the local population. Especially if it's built on some kind of ancient animatronic burial site. Oy, the nightmares and the indigestion! Seriously, though, I can only hope that the creative teams behind lots of upcoming video game adaptations figure out ways to bring those fictional universes into the real world outside of just pop-up exhibits during Comic-Con and other fleeting events. Let me ride a horse named Epona around Hyrule, Nintendo, I mean geeeeez! So while the FNAF movies haven't exactly been people-pleasers, with characters and storylines that aren't nearly as obsession-worthy as the Jim Henson Creature Shop animatronics and perfecto production designs, I have to think the real-world Freddy Fazbear's Pizza will deliver the best of all worlds, without any actors or storylines needed for fun to be had by younger fans.Of course, the desire for a third movie obviously still persists, since we need to see Matthew Lillard joined by his former Scream co-star Skeet Ulrich as Henry Emily, which didn't get to play out in the second one. And there are obviously still several horrifying iterations of the various band members that need to be realized as live-action animatronics. Hopefully this restaurant attraction's existence is a sign that more good news is on the way.
