Beyond Good and Evil 2 was first announced back in 2008, over 18 years ago now, and then re-announced and confirmed to still be in development in 2017. Ever since then, it’s been basically radio silence, and while the game is officially in the works, no one really knows if it’ll ever see the light of day. Now, according to a new report, Ubisoft is planning to re-re-announce the game this year, possibly during The Game Awards show, under an entirely new name. That is according to YouTuber Attack the Backlog, who, citing Nintendo leaker Nash Weedle, said that Ubisoft is looking to completely rebrand Beyond Good and Evil 2, and even bring it to the Nintendo Switch 2. “The game has a brand new title, and [Nash] has been told that there have been many, many changes made to this game since we saw it a thousand years ago,” the creator said. “Apparently we are going to be seeing it at one of the big events this year, and [Nash] thinks it could be The Game Awards. [There is] maybe a possibility that it could come over to the Switch 2. When I asked him about that, he was told that the game is being built on an engine that is extremely scalable,” the YouTuber continues. He adds that, while this news of the scalable engine (likely Anvil or some other in-house Ubisoft engine) isn’t clear on its own, Weedle took it as a “confirmation” of the game’s eventual port to the Switch 2. Beyond Good and Evil 2 has become somewhat of a mythical game. It’s been officially in the works for nearly two decades now, and though we’ve gotten announcements and wind of the game’s eventual™ release, we saw literally nothing of the actual title. With the supposed changes made to it since its last trailer in 2017, I guess even that cinematic that we do have doesn’t mean anything anymore. Whether a rebrand will help this game to finally make it out the front door is questionable at best, especially since Ubisoft hasn’t been faring so well in recent years. Who knows, perhaps this is exactly what the company needs to start making good and new games again. I doubt it, though. Destructoid is headed to gamescom 2026.
