Humanoid robots are projected to be a major industry in the coming years. Advances in technology and AI could bring a future where the vision of robots being able to take menial tasks off of our plate is realized. Samsung has already made some strategic investments to get its foot in the door. A new report suggests that the company may now be developing humanoid robots in-house. The company's manufacturing prowess comes in handySamsung previously invested hundreds of millions of dollars in South Korean robotics firm Rainbow Robotics. It happens to be the largest shareholder in the company which develops advanced humanoid robots.The in-house work on humanoid robotics is reportedly separate from the work being done by Rainbow Robotics. The report adds that the robot Samsung has developed outperforms major domestic rivals, as the company is able to rely on its extensive hardware manufacturing prowess to streamline the process. The company is also believed to be developing proprietary actuators for such robots based on motor technologies that were originally developed for its home appliances. These actuators serve as joints for robots, allowing for articulation and controlled movement.Samsung could seek to benefit from the eventual shift to humanoid robots in several ways. The company could have a commercial angle where it sells own-brand robots, or it can do what it does with the wide range of components it already sells, and supply high quality components to other robotics companies that bring those products to market.
