I just need to rant because I spent ONE FUCKING HOUR this morning trying to make the few sad strands still attached to my head look like an actual hairstyle, and I am officially done. I miss when hair was just… hair. 2,5 years ago, the most effort I ever had to put into my hair was maybe doing some lazy overnight curls. Not even one of those elaborate Tiktok routines with 17 sections and six different products. Just throw it into something overnight, wake up, take it out, boom. Good hair. Most of the time I could literally let my hair air dry, scrunch my natural waves/curls a little and leave the house. And if it looked like shit? MESSY BUN. PONYTAIL. DONE. My hair used to be PERFECT messy bun hair. Thick, wavy, slightly chaotic. I could basically twist it into some random blob on top of my head and somehow it looked cute and effortless. Those were the fucking DAYS. This morning I tried everything. Claw clip? Nope. Messy bun? Absolutely fucking not. Ponytail? Looked depressing. Then I thought, okay, fine, I’ll put my clip-in extensions in. Surely if I physically ADD MORE HAIR TO MY HEAD I can manage some kind of updo. HAHAHAHAHA. No. Apparently not. Even WITH extensions there still somehow wasn’t enough hair to create anything resembling a decent messy bun. Every claw clip hairstyle just resulted in this pathetic little rat tail hanging out the back. You know those effortless claw clip hairstyles where women have this gorgeous thick pile of hair cascading out of it? Yeah. Mine looks like the claw clip accidentally ate a small rodent and its tail is still sticking out. Fantastic. And honestly, beyond the obvious emotional part of hair loss and feeling horrible about how my hair looks, THIS is one of the things that bothers me the most. THE FUCKING STYLING. Most days I can sort of fake „normal“ hair by using a waving iron because it gives me enough volume and texture that the thinning isn’t immediately obvious. Especially if I add clip-ins. But sometimes I DON’T WANT TO STYLE MY HAIR. Sometimes I don’t want heat tools and extensions and powders and sprays and strategic placement and checking the back of my head in seventeen different mirrors like I’m planning a military operation. Sometimes I just want to put my hair in a fucking ponytail and leave the house. That’s it. That is literally all I’m asking for. Especially before work. I do not want my first task of the day to be spending an hour trying to engineer an optical illusion on my scalp. And now I’m sitting here absolutely fucking furious, I still hate my hair, nothing I tried worked, and I have to go to the office looking like I lost a fight with a lawn mower. Hair loss has taken SO MUCH mental energy from me. It’s not just “oh, my hair is thinner now.” It’s constantly thinking about lighting. Wind. Rain. Photos. Hairstyles. Swimming. Whether the back of your head looks weird. Whether your scalp is showing. Whether your extensions are visible. Whether you’ve styled it enough. Whether you can get away with not washing it. Whether today is going to be a “good hair loss day” or one of those days where you catch yourself in a mirror and immediately want to go home. I am so fucking tired of my hair requiring this much effort just to reach the level of “acceptable.” I don’t even need amazing hair at this point. I JUST WANT LOW-MAINTENANCE MEDIOCRE HAIR. Is that really too much to fucking ask??? submitted by /u/halbzehn [link] [comments]
