KM Malta Airlines has warned passengers that flights to and from Catania may continue to face last-minute delays and cancellations as volcanic activity at Mount Etna creates an unpredictable operating environment.In a statement, the airline said it is working closely with Catania Airport and the relevant authorities to operate scheduled services whenever it is safe to do so. However, volcanic activity, weather conditions and changing wind patterns can force operational decisions to be made at very short notice.The airline said it will inform affected passengers as early as possible whenever advance notice is available. However, in some cases, deteriorating conditions or sudden operational restrictions may require flights to be delayed or cancelled shortly before departure.KM Malta Airlines stressed that passenger and crew safety remains its top priority, adding that it will not hesitate to cancel a flight if volcanic ash or weather conditions pose a potential safety risk.The airline said its operational teams will continue working with airport authorities to maximise opportunities to operate scheduled services safely while the situation around Mount Etna remains highly dynamic.•
