In 1930, an American lab technician invented a transparent adhesive tape that became a commercial product and changed the tape industry. Richard Gurley Drew of 3M developed transparent cellophane tape after creating masking tape for automobile painters. His inventions led to pressure-sensitive tapes used in homes, offices, medical work, construction and other fields.
