Donald Trump‘s Trump Media company, which runs his Truth Social platform, has just posted a $238 million loss. In a Q2 earnings report yesterday, Trump Media & Technology Group confirmed that, “the Company reported a $238.1 million net loss and a $223.5 million Adjusted EBITDA* loss for the second quarter of 2026.” They said the majority of this loss was due to poorly performing crypto investments, described as “unrealized losses on digital assets, digital assets pledged, and equity securities.” However, they also said accreted interest, stock compensation, operating activities, and litigation have also cost them tens of millions of dollars. “The engine that propels the next 250 years of American energy independence” The company’s new chief executive, Kevin McGurn, indicated that a change of course for the company may be on the way, saying (as per The Guardian): “We made the disciplined choice to pivot in order to invest more time and resources in our most important initiatives. We will say no to things or change course as warranted.” Trump Media reports $238m loss as crypto falls https://t.co/OirHkbt34X— BBC News (UK) (@BBCNews) August 11, 2026 McGurn also confirmed that Trump Media will soon be focusing on harnessing the power of the heart of our sun as it attempts to master nuclear fusion. This will be done via a merger with energy company TAE Systems, which was announced in December 2025 and which they have now said will be completed by the end of 2026. In a post on Truth Social in late June, McGurn explained that a media company pursuing nuclear fusion makes sense to him, teasing that this will power “energy independence” that will lead to AI breakthroughs: “As America marks 250 years of independence, we’re eager to complete our merger and build what we believe will be the engine that propels the next 250 years of American energy independence. Fueled by affordable and abundant fusion power, the U.S. could achieve strategically vital breakthroughs in AI, quantum computing, and beyond.” Investments in Trump-associated businesses and ventures have proved volatile. In April it was reported that the $TRUMP memecoin saw investors lose 96 percent of their money and was deemed “a scam.” Meanwhile, Trump himself has seen his personal fortune reportedly double since returning to the White House. Prominent scientists have cast doubt that nuclear fusion is commercially viable anytime soon, projecting that it could take decades for the technology to be realized. For example, Omar Hurricane, program leader at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, said in June 2023, “I do think fusion looks a lot more plausible now than it did 10 years ago as a future energy source. But it’s not going to be viable in the next 10 to 20 years, so we need other solutions.” Tony Donné, programme manager of EUROfusion was blunter, saying in the same article: “Anyone who tells me that they’ll have a working future reactor in five or 10 years is either completely ignorant or a liar.” More recently, in January 2026, John P. Holdren, Research Professor at Harvard Kennedy School and a former White House science advisor said: “If I were a betting person and if I expected to be alive to collect, I’d bet we won’t see a successful commercial fusion reactor before 2050.” But perhaps Trump Media will show these naysayers how it’s done and finally tame the massive powers that exist in the heart of stars throughout the universe.
