Before Star Trek returns to theaters with a new movie, its previous classic movies are returning to the big screen. AMC and Cinemark will be bringing a series of episodes and movies back to theaters, and of course there's a must-have popcorn bucket to accompany it. From September 4th to the 8th, the best Star Trek movies are headed back to theaters with a twist. Each classic installment will be a "double feature," with a TOS episode attached that matches the themes or story of the accompanying movie. I'm excited to head to theaters and see these episodes and movies, as well as pick up these collectibles showcased by AMC: A post shared by AMC Theatres (@amctheatres)A photo posted by on In a time when studios are not that concerned about the functionality of these novelty popcorn buckets (looking at you, Trojan horse), I'm glad whoever designed this didn't insist on jamming popcorn in through the Enterprise saucer. Putting the popcorn in the 60th anniversary tub isn't just functional; it's more "logical." As someone who first watched The Wrath of Khan immediately after viewing "Space Seed," I'm eager to experience that all over again. In my opinion, that's the only way to fully appreciate the movie, though it is one of the most acclaimed movies of the franchise. I also can't help but be a little disappointed we're not seeing the Kelvin movies make a comeback as part of this celebration, especially since it's the 10th anniversary of Star Trek: Beyond. Perhaps there's apprehension on Paramount's part to bring those movies back to theaters, lest they get the fans all up in arms about a fourth movie never happening. I'm curious to see what the fan turnout will be for this event, and if it will have any impact on Paramount Skydance's ongoing efforts to bring the franchise back to theaters. Perhaps if a lot of fans show up for this event, there will be more urgency in getting new Trek projects in the works than what we've seen. As it stands right now, the 60th anniversary has arrived, as there are no active shows in development. It is good to see there are some things to celebrate as this anniversary happens, and ways to celebrate for fans that continue to hold the line while we wait for more announcements. I'm ready to return to theaters to see Star Trek, and will be on the lookout for more details as the dates approach. Fingers crossed we get even more surprises before the year is up, and maybe even some other classic movies returning to theaters.
