Theme park guests have found plenty of unusual ways to spend a day at Universal Orlando Resort over the years, but this one may take the cake.Fishing inside Islands of Adventure probably isn’t on many people’s lists.More than a decade after one guest apparently decided to cast a line inside the Universal Orlando theme park, an old photo of the bizarre moment has resurfaced online. And yes, it appears he actually caught something.Credit: UniversalThe photo offers a strange look back at something that would be difficult to imagine happening inside Islands of Adventure today.Man Apparently Went Fishing Inside Islands of AdventureAmusement Buzz recently shared the old photo on X, bringing new attention to an incident that reportedly happened on September 13, 2015.“September 13th, 2015, a guy went fishing in the lagoon at Islands of Adventure. I found this and had forgotten about this!” the account wrote. The image shows the man standing directly in front of the Jurassic Park Discovery Center at Islands of Adventure. More importantly, he isn’t simply posing with fishing gear for a funny photo. There’s a fish hanging from the hook.September 13th, 2015 a guy went fishing in the lagoon at Islands of Adventure I found this and had forgotten about this! @UniversalORL pic.twitter.com/zLrK3kYbOo— Amusement Buzz (@Amusement_Buzz) August 11, 2026Somehow, the guest apparently managed to bring fishing equipment into the park, cast a line into the lagoon, and successfully catch a fish before posing with his catch in one of the most recognizable areas of Jurassic Park.More than 10 years later, the image is making the rounds again. You Definitely Shouldn’t Try This at Universal OrlandoThe screenshot of the post does make it clear as the guest shares “There were no ‘no fishing’ signs.” And, while the story makes for a wild piece of Islands of Adventure history, this isn’t something guests should attempt to recreate.Fishing inside the Islands of Adventure lagoon is prohibited, and guests shouldn’t view the resurfaced photo as proof that they can bring a rod, line, or hook into the park and try their luck.Universal Orlando also screens guests and their belongings before entering its theme parks today. Bags, backpacks, packages, and other personal items can be inspected as part of the security process.Exactly how the man managed to pull off his fishing trip back in 2015 isn’t clear from the resurfaced post. It’s also unclear how long he was able to fish before the photo was taken or whether Universal Team Members eventually intervened. That uncertainty only makes the old picture stranger. The Jurassic Park Area Looks Very Different TodayThe location adds another interesting element to the photo. The Jurassic Park Discovery Center remains part of Islands of Adventure, but the surrounding area has changed dramatically since September 2015.Most notably, Jurassic World VelociCoaster wasn’t there. The massive roller coaster opened in 2021, transforming the area around the Discovery Center and the nearby lagoon. Its track now twists through the Jurassic Park landscape and has become one of the most recognizable sights at Islands of Adventure.Anyone looking at a photo from this area in 2015 would immediately notice how different the surroundings were.Universal Orlando itself has also undergone enormous changes during the years since the fishing incident. The resort continued expanding before opening Epic Universe in May 2025, giving Universal Orlando an entirely new theme park. But this resurfaced photo isn’t interesting because of a massive attraction or multibillion-dollar expansion. It’s interesting because a guy apparently went fishing in the middle of a theme park. And caught something.Credit: UniversalA Bizarre Piece of Universal Orlando HistoryTheme parks have plenty of strange stories from years gone by, particularly as old photos and videos find new audiences through social media. This one certainly qualifies. The photo doesn’t tell us exactly what happened before or after the fish was caught. We don’t know how long the man had been fishing, what Universal Team Members said when they discovered what was happening, or what ultimately happened to his catch. What we do have is a photo of the man standing directly in front of the Jurassic Park Discovery Center with a fish dangling from his line.More than a decade later, that’s enough to make the moment interesting all over again.Of course, guests shouldn’t take the viral post as inspiration for their next Universal Orlando vacation. The Islands of Adventure lagoon isn’t a fishing spot, and trying to recreate the stunt could quickly create problems with park employees. But as a strange snapshot of Universal Orlando history, it’s difficult to top. Some guests leave Islands of Adventure with a souvenir wand, a dinosaur plush, or a photo from their favorite roller coaster.Apparently, at least one guest left Jurassic Park with a fishing story. What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen inside Universal Orlando Resort or Walt Disney World?
