A server with six years of experience took to TikTok and gave her followers a storytime about her most awkward experience at work. Hannah Lynn (@hannah_lynn16) told her followers about a couple who walked into the restaurant where she worked and started playing games that she just wanted to be kept out of. Hannah said a man approached her at work and told her that he was on a first date. She said she went on to have the “most awkward 2h of her life.” He seemed nervous and immediately asked her to bring him a strawberry margarita. He then changed his mind and approached Hannah again, saying that he didn’t want a strawberry margarita because that would be too presumptive. He apparently told her, “Go ahead and cancel the margarita.” So the two agreed to cancel the order. Eventually, she served him the Old Fashioned that he ordered and just waited for his date to arrive. She was shocked She finally arrived, and when Hannah went to take her order, she actually picked the strawberry margarita from the menu. Hannah tried to joke with the man, suggesting that whatever he had been thinking had turned out to be accurate. But she got an uninviting energy from the two, so she just awkwardly removed herself from the table. Later, it turned out her read wasn’t too far off. The woman came up to her and told her that she had just found out the man actually had a wife. She said she just wanted to pay her tab and leave. Hannah said the look on her face expressed exactly how shocked she was. Immediately, her empathy overtook her sense of just working and minding her business. At this point in the video, Hannah said, “I would want to leave too, girl.” Hannah told the woman that she shouldn’t even pay and should just walk out and let him pay the bill for wasting her time. She apparently still decided to pay for her drink and left. The man, however, stayed — much to Hannah’s chagrin. She said, “I’m fully thinking he just tricked this woman to meet him for a first date and he is fully married.” Hannah then went on to say that the woman came back in and they eventually figured it all out. When she tried to find out what was going on, she discovered that the two had actually been married for 20 years and that this was just their way of trying to keep things fresh. Hannah said she was happy for the couple at that point — but she just wished they’d leave her out of it. Servers learn how to keep a poker face One user commented, “It’s giving Phil and Claire from Modern Family.” Another said that’s why they stay out of clients’ business, writing, “As a server, we are there to serve not to judge. I don’t care what people tell me, it’s poker face and ‘Absolutely, Sir’ to every request. I don’t give AF about their story or their situation, I’m there for their money.” Certainly, Hannah found out the hard way that sometimes less is more when it comes to customers’ personal information.
