You made me realize part of what is so incensing to me about her requests: she acknowledges that her son is burning through sneakers before he grows out of them, but she's asking for luxury brand gear for him like $100+ sneakers, a $60+ Camelbak, a $200+ backpack, $200+ headphones, $30+ water bottles... And not to over-generalize, but having been a teenage athlete myself once upon a time and having worked with college athletes at one time, I'll say many (maybe most) teenagers are not known for being super responsible and delicate with their gear. It's one thing if someone just has more money than sense and they want to pay luxury prices to buy their own kids backpacks and water bottles that are gonna get constantly tossed on the ground and ear buds that are gonna get lost, but why should someone else be willing to buy your teenager luxury items that will be lucky to survive a year or normal teenage use? Guess it's easier not to care about that when you're expecting someone else to foot the bill?
