Tottenham were held to a 1-1 draw at full‑time but ultimately triumphed 4-2 on penalties in their latest pre‑season clash against Sydney during their tour of New Zealand and Australia. However, in the second half there was little the Tottenham shot-stopper could do to prevent Sydney’s equaliser. Came up with a huge save to help with the penalty shootout. 6.5.Rio Kyerematen – Was a real live wire in the first half, with the youngster often finding himself in good attacking positions. He had two attempts from inside the box, one of which was blocked and the other saved. In the second half, he continued with his overlapping runs down the left. He was eventually moved to the right after Andrew Robertson’s introduction and once again offered creativity as he inverted into midfield. 7.5.Ben Davies – The veteran defender offered experience to a young Spurs backline in the first half as he slotted in at centre-back. He was again key in the build-up play, often showing for the ball and looking to play forward whenever possible. However, he was substituted at half-time. 6.Malachi Hardy – On the ball in the first half, Hardy looked very composed and helped with Tottenham’s build-up play, often looking to play forward passes and even carry the ball from deep into Sydney’s half. There was nothing he could do for the A-League side’s equaliser. 7.Tye Hall – In the first half, Hall was deployed on the right side of Spurs’ defence and was mostly focused on his defensive duties, with very few forays forward. He was eventually substituted in the second half. 5.Archie Gray – The midfielder looked very calm and composed in the middle of the park in the first half, where he was used as a defensive midfielder. He helped keep things ticking in midfield with crisp, accurate passing. In the second half, his role changed following the introduction of Sandro Tonali, who went to the base of midfield. Gray played further forward but did not make any notable contribution before he was substituted. 7.Lucas Bergvall – Made his first start of pre-season here and looked bright in the first half, often showing for the ball and looking to create chances for Tottenham. In the first half, he found himself free in the box after a Manor Solomon cut-back but scuffed his effort. He then had another attempt that struck the woodwork. In the second half, he continued to find himself in good positions inside the box, but the chances were not as clear-cut. 6.Manor Solomon – The winger looked very lively in the first half and created two big chances for Tottenham, both of which fell to Gallagher, but the Englishman failed to convert either. In the second half, though, his influence waned. 6.5.Richarlison – In the first half, the forward barely had a sniff at goal for Tottenham. That continued into the second half, with Richarlison left to do plenty of work out of possession, mostly pressing and closing down the centre-backs and goalkeeper when Sydney had the ball. It did not take Williams-Barnett long to make an impact as he came close to doubling Tottenham’s lead after his first attempt on goal hit the crossbar. He then continued to drive at the Sydney defence, who found it difficult to deal with his pace and trickery. Stepped up for the first penalty in the shootout and scored a cheeky panenka. 8.Sandro Tonali – The big-money signing came on in place of Lucas Bergvall and went straight into the holding midfield role. He brought some much-needed composure to the middle of the park, helping Spurs maintain control of the game. He also had a sniff at goal after linking up with Luca Williams-Barnett on the edge of the box, but his effort was well dealt with. Confident penalty. 6.Kota Takai – Came on for Ben Davies and went straight into the centre-back role alongside Malachi Hardy. Sydney’s first attack of the second half resulted in a goal, as Takai’s attempt to intercept the pass only allowed the ball to find its way to Sekine, who slotted past Dubravka. 5.Andrew Robertson – It was the new signing’s first Tottenham appearance and he looked very impressive, delivering several dangerous crosses into the box that should have been converted by Yang Min-hyeok. Scored his pen well. 7.Mason Melia – Came on in the second half and barely had any impact on proceedings. 5.Dane Scarlett – Replaced Richarlison and, just like the Brazilian, had no real sniff at goal for Tottenham.
