Keith Schembri today claimed in court that Johann Cremona was offered up to €400,000 to testify in Yorgen Fenech’s favour.While testifying in Fenech’s murder trial, Schembri alleged that Cremona first told him he had been offered €200,000 to give evidence supporting Fenech. According to Schembri, the offer was later increased to €400,000.Schembri also testified that, two days before he was due to give evidence in June 2020, a “very important person” contacted him to arrange a meeting with Fenech’s lawyers, Gianluca Caruana Curran and Charles Mercieca.According to Schembri, during that meeting the lawyers told him to “help Yorgen”, to which he replied: “How can I help him more than I already have?”When prosecutors later asked Schembri to identify the “very important person”, the judge prohibited the media from reporting that part of his testimony.Fenech is pleading not guilty to complicity in the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.•
