Square Enix is the latest company to add PC games to the GOG Preservation by bringing the two JRPG entries Star Ocean: The Second Story R and Star Ocean: The Divine Force to the storefront. Both are now available DRM-free on the site. Each one is temporarily on sale until August 9, 2026, in honor of their arrival. So The Second Story R is $24.99 instead of $49.99, and The Divine Force is $23.99 rather than $59.99. This also happens as the series celebrates its 30th anniversary. The GOG product pages for both of these Star Ocean PC games confirmed they are compatible with Windows 11, will get lifetime maintenance to ensure they remain compatible, and people who play them will get tech support assistance. Both support controllers, naturally, but also cloud saves and achievements. In the case of The Divine Force, there is also a Digital Deluxe Edition that includes a digital copy of the soundtrack and add-ons like Andvaranaut’s Ring, Bunny the Lagomower Brooch, Gold Bunny Statue, Holy Sigrdrifa, Radiant Hildegrim, and Tri-Emblum. That does cost $74.99, but the launch sale is also in effect making it temporarily $29.99. GOG and Square Enix shared a trailer for Star Ocean: The Second Story R, which you can see below. Square Enix also brought Star Ocean: The Second Story R to the Switch 2. However, that didn’t end up with the warmest reception due to the fact no Upgrade Pack update patch option appeared for existing Switch owners. Instead, people need to buy the full game again. Star Ocean: The Second Story R is available for the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, and PC. The original game showed up on the PSP, and Second Evolution versions showed up on the PS3, PS4, PSP, and Vita. Star Ocean: The Divine Force appeared on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
