HC orders NRI to appear with minor children in contempt filed by wife - The HinduPublished - August 01, 2026 09:46 pm IST - HYDERABADObserving that ‘Parental Alienation Syndrome’ has deleterious effects on the psychology of a child, the Telangana High Court directed an NRI to be present before it on August 12 while hearing a contempt of case filed by his wife. The petitioner, Shalini Boyamotla, filed the contempt case against her husband Bharat Kumar Pogula stating that the latter was wilfully disobeying the HC order to allow her to speak with her two minor daughters (currently in the USA and in the custody of her husband) through video phone calls. The bench of Justices Moushumi Bhattacharya and Gadi Praveen Kumar passing the orders in the contempt case issued Form-I notices to Bharat Kumar instructing him to be present in the court along with their two minor daughters. The couple got married in 2015 and were living in the USA. They have two children, an eight-year-old and a five-year-old. The petitioner maintained that she developed differences with her husband and was subjected to torture by him. According to her, she travelled to India to attend on her mother and her husband did not allow the two minor daughters to travel with her. Claiming that her husband did not cooperate in renewal of her USA visa, the woman filed a habeas corpus plea here in the HC. She wanted an immediate relief of permitting her to speak with her children through video phone calls. Though the HC passed an order to allow her to speak with the children through video calls, the husband allegedly created obstructions in the matter.
