Umashankar, secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and urged him to allow the NHAI officers to invite tenders for the Belagavi bypass Package 1 without waiting for Packages 2 and 3. Mr. Shettar said the delay in the remaining packages was prolonging traffic congestion in Belagavi city and that work on Package 1 should commence independently.He also spoke about the difficulties faced by farmers in accessing their agricultural lands along the Belagavi–Hunagund–Raichur National Highway and sought the provision of service road connectivity.
