Looking for some firsthand experiences because I’m feeling really torn. I started 2.5 mg oral minoxidil in March and had a pretty significant shedding phase for about a month before it started working. I later reduced my dose to 1.25 mg. The results have honestly been amazing for my hair, and even my eyebrows are finally fuller. The extra facial/body hair doesn’t bother me too much. The problem is my hormonal acne has gotten significantly worse. I had previously been on 100 mg spironolactone for 2 years, and it completely cleared my jawline acne. After stopping spironolactone, my skin actually remained clear for several months. It wasn’t until about two weeks after starting oral minoxidil that I began breaking out again, and the acne has progressively gotten worse since then even though I’ve been using tretinoin & Azelaic Acid this whole time. My dermatologist recommended stopping oral minoxidil and thinks I’m a good candidate for Accutane. I’m open to switching to topical if oral minoxidil is contributing to my acne. I just don’t want to make the wrong decision. My biggest concern is that I already went through the initial shedding phase on oral minoxidil, and I’m worried that switching to topical will cause another shed or make me lose the progress I’ve made. For anyone who switched from oral to topical: Did you keep most of your hair gains? Did your acne or oiliness improve? Did you go through another shedding phase after switching? If you could do it again, would you make the switch? I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences! submitted by /u/Disastrous-Ebb4572 [link] [comments]
