Mauricio Pochettino looks to be extending his stay with U.S. Soccer.Pochettino is closing in on signing a new, four-year deal as head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team, multiple outlets reported. Telemundo originally reported the news on Tuesday before The Athletic later confirmed the report on Wednesday. No official agreement has been decided, but all signs are pointing to Pochettino staying on as USMNT boss. The 54-year-old’s original contract with U.S. Soccer expired at the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer. Pochettino led the USMNT to a Round of 16 spot before the Americans lost 4-1 to Belgium. Pochettino took over as USMNT head coach back in 2024 and has since recorded a 17-2-12 record in all competitions. He led the USMNT to the Nations League Final Four in 2025, as well as the CONCACAF Gold Cup Final.In total, Pochettino has managed in over 680 matches at both the club and international level. He is mainly known for his work at Tottenham, PSG, and Chelsea. The USMNT are slated to return to action this September and October for friendlies before entering the Nations League quarterfinal round in November. World Cup Qualifying will begin for the Americans in September-October 2027 and carry through international windows in 2028 and 2029.
