Police in Busia district, eastern Uganda, have launched investigations into the suspected murder and suicide of a married couple who were found dead inside their grass-thatched house in Busime sub-county.The deceased have been identified as Godfrey Okuku, 31, and his wife, Racheal Auma, 23, both residents of Namamera village, Mundindi parish.According to police, residents discovered the bodies on the morning of July 28, 2026. Auma was found dead in the couple’s bedroom, while Okuku was also found hanged inside the house.Preliminary findings suggest the deaths may have followed a domestic dispute, although the motive has not yet been established.Bukedi South regional police spokesperson Moses Johnson Mugwe said the incident was reported by the area LCI chairperson to Busime Police Post before detectives from the Police Investigations Unit visited the scene.Police have since opened a case of suspected murder and suicide. Investigators recovered several exhibits from the scene, including an axe, a knife with suspected blood stains, surgical blades, a damaged television set, a solar panel, a radio and other household items believed to be relevant to the investigation.Mugwe said preliminary investigations indicate that the couple may have been involved in a violent altercation before Okuku allegedly killed his wife and later died. The bodies were taken to Masafu General Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations as investigations continue.Residents described the incident as shocking.
