Peter Caruana Galizia testified during Yorgen Fenech’s murder trial, telling jurors that Daphne Caruana Galizia planned to contact Fenech as she pursued what he described as the biggest investigation of her career in the weeks leading up to her assassination.He testified that Daphne had Yorgen Fenech’s phone number written down at home and had become consumed by the Electrogas investigation following the 2017 general election.“I remember her telling me it was a big story, and that Yorgen Fenech was involved,” he told the court.Peter Caruana Galizia also recalled the day his wife was murdered on 16th October 2017, describing how nothing could have prepared him for the moment he arrived at their Bidnija home after his son Andrew told him something had happened.Reflecting on Daphne’s determination, he told jurors: “Fear wasn’t in her vocabulary. When she had a story she would pursue it, get to the bottom of it. Nothing would hold her back.”He also said the family eventually became convinced that the motive behind Daphne’s murder was her investigation into Electrogas, adding: “When Yorgen Fenech was arrested, we were proven right.”During his testimony, Caruana Galizia praised Assistant Commissioner Keith Arnaud’s work on the investigation and said the family had successfully gone to court to have former deputy police commissioner Silvio Valletta removed from the case over concerns about his impartiality.Fenech has pleaded not guilty to complicity in the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia. The trial resumes tomorrow.•
