If you thought the worst of this summer’s heat was over, think again.The Malta Meteorological Office has warned that another spell of sweltering weather is on the way, with temperatures expected to remain between 34°C and 36°C until at least 6th August. The ‘feels like’ temperature is forecast to climb as high as 38°C over the coming days.Saturday is expected to be the hottest day of the weekend, reaching 36°C, while the apparent temperature will hit 38°C. From Sunday through Wednesday, temperatures are set to hover around 34°C, feeling closer to 37°C to 38°C, before rising to 35°C on Thursday.The latest forecast comes just days after Malta experienced a record-breaking heatwave, with temperatures reaching 42°C or higher for three consecutive days, the longest such streak ever recorded.On 18th July, the mercury climbed to 43.3°C, setting a new July record and surpassing the previous high of 42.7°C, recorded in both 1988 and 2023. It was also just 0.5°C shy of Malta’s all-time August record of 43.8°C, set in 1999.The extreme temperatures also placed significant strain on the country’s electricity network, with prolonged power cuts affecting several localities during the peak of the heatwave.Health authorities are once again urging the public to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest hours of the day and check in on elderly and vulnerable relatives and neighbours, as prolonged high temperatures can quickly lead to dehydration and heat-related illness.Are you counting down to cooler weather?•
