Robert Metcalfe and Dave Boggs developed Ethernet at Xerox PARC in 1973. This technology solved the growing problem of sharing data between computers quickly. Ethernet became the world's most widely used local area network standard. Metcalfe later co-founded 3Com Corporation to manufacture networking equipment.
